NIO is one of the pioneers in refractive surgeries. Lasers form the backbone of todays refractive treatment. Treatment modalities that we offer our patients are
LASIK: an acronym for Laser-assisted In Situ Keratomileusis, is a form of refractive laser eye surgery procedure performed to reduce the dependence on glasses and contact lenses. A superficial flap of the cornea is lifted and u/v light and energy from the excimer laser precisely sculpt the corneal bed. It is possible to correct high levels of near sightedness (myopia) and mod levels of far sightedness (hyperopia) and astigmatism. After the corneal bed is reshaped, the flap of cornea is replaced in its original position.
Advanced surface ablation:
It is an excellent alternative to LASIK in lower myopia patients and in selective cases where LASIK cannot be performed due to safety considerations such as in cases where corneal thickness is inadequate. Excimer laser is absorbed only by the superficial layers of the cornea. Depending on the amount of error i.e. spectacle number, the amount of corneal surface cells to be reshaped is determined. We use the latest allegretto blue line eye-q laser for refractive surgery. Easy to use calibration and closed loop energy control significantly increases the working comfort of the physician and safety for the patient. it reduces the time of surgery by half hence giving further benefit of enhanced speed with accuracy to the patient.
We also perform non laser refractive surgeries like implantable contact lens and clear lens extraction in patients not suitable for laser based refractive procedures.
